For many military families, relocation is a way of life. New duty stations, deployments, and frequent moves can make it difficult for students to maintain academic continuity, build lasting relationships with teachers, and stay on track for college.

For Ethan (Class of 2024) and his family, these challenges were all too familiar. Throughout high school, his military family relocated several times as his parent received new assignments. While each move brought new opportunities, it also meant leaving behind friends, communities, and familiar routines.

Fortunately, Ethan never had to leave his school behind.

As a student at George Washington University Online High School, he remained connected to the same teachers, advisor, and college counselors throughout his high-school journey. His coursework continued uninterrupted, his graduation plan stayed on track, and he was able to maintain meaningful relationships with classmates through live classes, student organizations, and virtual school events.

With support from his college counselor, Ethan built a competitive college application, graduated on time, and transitioned seamlessly into college. “As a military family, we’ve learned to expect change – but we wanted our son’s education to be the one constant in his life. GWUOHS gave him exactly that. We never had to worry about lost credits or interrupted learning; and by graduation, he was more than prepared for college,” explained Lynn (Ethan’s mother).
