The George Washington University Online High School (GWUOHS) is dedicated to making a quality education available to as many high-achieving students as possible. We offer scholarship options to help reduce the burden of education costs.
George Washington University Online High School will award one scholarship for tuition-free, full-time enrollment for the school year to a new or returning student entering the 9th grade who demonstrates both high academic potential and family financial need.
Those eligible for this scholarship include students entering the 9th grade with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (letter grade B). They must also meet the scholarship’s economic needs guidelines.
Students awarded this scholarship will also receive:
All services and support available to full-time students, including academic advising, engagement monitoring, college counseling, and instructional support from certified teachers
An assigned mentor who will meet regularly with the student and provide additional support, encouragement, and connections with other resources as necessary
A laptop computer to use for the duration of the student’s enrollment at the school, and all online and hands-on learning materials available to full-time students
The scholarship will be awarded based on merit (components: student essays, letters of recommendation, a student introduction, and Parent Information Form) and financial need. The process of selection is as follows:
Our goal is to renew scholarships for all four high school years for the awarded students. Annual scholarship renewal will depend on the student’s engagement and academic progress and will be determined each May. To be eligible for renewal, students must meet the following criteria:

GWUOHS participates in Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA). The ESA provides scholarship dollars toward GWUOHS tuition costs, giving Arizona families significant tuition assistance toward a private school education.
Arizona’s ESA helps families pursue flexible options for their children’s learning. Public funding through the ESA enables families to expand their educational opportunities outside the public school system and further personalize their educational experience. Arizona’s ESA can cover education expenses, including private school tuition, tutoring services, learning materials, and more.
Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship is a powerful resource for students and families who want to enroll at GWUOHS. The program provides all Arizona families with:

GWUOHS participates in Arkansas’s Education Freedom Account (EFA) program, which provides state-funded education dollars to eligible Arkansas families. These funds can be used toward GWUOHS tuition as well as a variety of approved educational expenses, including tutoring, homeschool curriculum, and educational therapies.
For the 2025–2026 school year, eligible students may receive up to $6,864 in EFA funding, distributed quarterly.

Participating students typically receive an average grant of approximately $4,800, depending on eligibility and program guidelines. GWUOHS proudly participates in West Virginia’s Hope Scholarship program. This state-funded scholarship program helps eligible families pay for private school tuition and other approved educational expenses, including homeschool curriculum and educational materials. Eligible students may receive up to $5,435.62 for the 2026–2027 school year.
Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, all K–12 students eligible to enroll in a West Virginia public school (including private school and homeschool students) may qualify for the West Virginia Hope Scholarship.
