The George Washington University Online High School (GWUOHS) is dedicated to making a quality education available to as many high-achieving students as possible. We offer scholarship options to help reduce the burden of education costs.

The George Washington University Online High School Scholarship

Scholarship Benefits and Eligibility

All services and support available to full-time students, including academic advising, engagement monitoring, college counseling, and instructional support from certified teachers

An assigned mentor who will meet regularly with the student and provide additional support, encouragement, and connections with other resources as necessary

A laptop computer to use for the duration of the student’s enrollment at the school, and all online and hands-on learning materials available to full-time students

The Selection Process

The scholarship will be awarded based on merit (components: student essays, letters of recommendation, a student introduction, and Parent Information Form) and financial need. The process of selection is as follows:

  • The scholarship committee will rate all required components on applications.
  • Before final selection, candidates will be interviewed by phone.
  • Scholarship recipients can expect to be notified during the summer. Students receiving a scholarship and their parent/guardian must complete a form agreeing to the terms of the scholarship program.
  • After final scholarship acceptances are completed and agreement forms signed, applicants who were not selected will receive email notifications.

State-Funded Scholarship Offerings

In addition to The George Washington University Online High School Scholarship, GWUOHS also participates in a several state-funded scholarship programs to further expand the accessibility of a high-quality education.

The Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA)

GWUOHS participates in Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA). The ESA provides scholarship dollars toward GWUOHS tuition costs, giving Arizona families significant tuition assistance toward a private school education.

Arizona’s ESA helps families pursue flexible options for their children’s learning. Public funding through the ESA enables families to expand their educational opportunities outside the public school system and further personalize their educational experience. Arizona’s ESA can cover education expenses, including private school tuition, tutoring services, learning materials, and more.

Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship is a powerful resource for students and families who want to enroll at GWUOHS. The program provides all Arizona families with:

  • Scholarship dollars that significantly contribute to GWUOHS tuition costs*
  • Additional scholarship dollars for students with special needs
  • The ability to customize their child’s education
  • Equal opportunity for children to access a personalized learning experience
  • An easy application process—just two simple steps for approval

Eligibility for the Arizona ESA

All students in grades K–12 who reside in Arizona qualify for the Arizona ESA. Our enrollment consultants are available to help you confirm eligibility and guide you through the application process.

The Arkansas Education Freedom Account (EFA)

GWUOHS participates in Arkansas’s Education Freedom Account (EFA) program, which provides state-funded education dollars to eligible Arkansas families. These funds can be used toward GWUOHS tuition as well as a variety of approved educational expenses, including tutoring, homeschool curriculum, and educational therapies.

For the 2025–2026 school year, eligible students may receive up to $6,864 in EFA funding, distributed quarterly.

Benefits of the Arkansas EFA

Arkansas’s Education Freedom Account helps families create a more flexible and personalized approach to their child’s education. The program provides:

  • Scholarship funding that can fully or partially cover GWUOHS tuition and other approved expenses 
  • Additional support for students with special needs, including those with IDEA classifications, Succeed Scholarship eligibility, or foster/homeless status 
  • Priority consideration for military families, first responders, law enforcement households, and students attending lower-performing schools 
  • An annual renewal process designed to be streamlined for returning participants 

Eligibility for the Arkansas EFA

To qualify for Arkansas’s Education Freedom Account, students must reside in Arkansas and be eligible to enroll in grades K-12. Our enrollment consultants can help families confirm eligibility and walk through the application process.

The New Hampshire Education Freedom Account (EFA)

GWUOHS participates in New Hampshire’s Education Freedom Account program, which provides state-funded grants to help families pay for educational options outside of the traditional public school system. These funds may be applied toward GWUOHS tuition, tutoring, online learning programs, instructional materials, technology, and other approved education-related expenses.

Participating students typically receive an average grant of approximately $4,800, depending on eligibility and program guidelines.

Benefits of the New Hampshire EFA

The New Hampshire EFA program gives families greater control in shaping their child’s learning experience. It provides:

  • Scholarship funding that can help cover or fully pay GWUOHS tuition costs 
  • Additional support opportunities for students with special learning needs 
  • Flexible funding that can be used across multiple approved educational categories 
  • Expanded access to personalized learning environments beyond traditional public schooling 

Eligibility for the New Hampshire EFA

To qualify, families must reside in New Hampshire, and students must be eligible for K-12 enrollment. Income and other program requirements may also apply, including participation agreements defined by the state. Our enrollment consultants are available to help families understand eligibility and complete the application process.

The New Hampshire (NH) Education Freedom Accounts

GWUOHS participates in the NH Education Freedom Accounts. The State of New Hampshire  created the Education Freedom Accounts program to help expand educational opportunities for New Hampshire children. Eligible New Hampshire families earning up to 350% of the poverty line can direct part of their child’s state education funding to pay for tuition at the school of their choice, tutoring, online learning programs, educational supplies, and other educational expenses.

Eligibility for the NH Education Freedom Accounts Program

To be eligible for a NH Education Freedom Accounts program:

  1. You and your student must be New Hampshire residents.
  2. Your child must be at least 5 years old and no older than 20 and entering kindergarten through12th grade.
  3. Your family’s income must be at or below 350% of the federal poverty level guidelines.
  4. You must complete the application process and sign the EFA agreement, which includes agreeing to share academic accountability documents.

Other Discounts on GWUOHS Tuition

Scholarships are the only way to ensure that you’re providing your student with a quality education with sustainable tuition payments. GWUOHS also offers a number of discounts for some of our families:

Early Bird Discount:

This discount is for returning families who re-register for the next school year during the announced time period.

Sibling Discount:

If a family has more than one student enrolled at GWUOHS at the same time, they receive 10% off the cost of tuition for each student enrolled.

George Washington University Alumni and Staff Discount:

Alumns and current staff of GW receive 20% off the cost of tuition.

First Responder & Military Discount:

Members of the military (active or inactive) and members of first responder teams (police, fire, EMS, etc.) receive 15% off the cost of tuition.

Dual Enrollment Discount:
