GWUOHS National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization for the recognition of outstanding high school students.

NHS is more than just good grades. It honors 11th and 12th grade high school students who demonstrate excellence in character, leadership, scholarship and service.

National Honor Society at GWUOHS

To be considered for membership to the GWUOHS chapter of the National Honor Society, students must have at least 12 credits by the end of 10th grade and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.33. To be inducted as a new member, students must have been enrolled with GWUOHS for at least one semester prior to the review process.

Candidates apply for membership and are voted on by the Faculty Council based on the leadership, experience, service, and character that students demonstrate on their application.

Once inducted, NHS members are expected to uphold high academic standards, attend regular meetings, and complete a chapter service project as well as an individual service project each year.

National Honor Society membership awarded by other schools will be recognized by the GWUOHS branch of the NHS.

National Junior Honor Society

The GWUOHS NJHS chapter is open to all eligible middle grade students with a passion for service and leadership. GWUOHS middle school students with a B average may qualify for membership by completing an application in the fall semester, in which they are asked to outline examples of personal leadership, character, citizenship, or prior service work in their communities.

National Junior Honor Society members meet monthly to develop and discuss new initiatives for our school and share their own service work experiences, of which they are required to accumulate at least 10 hours per semester. GWUOHS NJHS members also meet in person for an annual service project and/or event, and lead social events for the school throughout the course of the year.
