National Honor Society at GWUOHS

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization for recognizing outstanding high school students. The George Washington University Online High School (GWUOHS) is honored to support a chapter.

National Honor Society Eligibility & Application

The National Honor Society is more than just good grades. It honors 11th and 12th grade high school students who demonstrate excellence in character, leadership, scholarship, and service.

To be considered for membership in the GWUOHS chapter of the National Honor Society, students must have at least 12 credits by the end of 10th grade and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.33. To be inducted as a new member, students must have been enrolled with GWUOHS for at least one semester prior to the review process.

Candidates apply for membership and are voted on by the Faculty Council based on the leadership, experience, service, and character students demonstrate on their application.

Once inducted, NHS members are expected to uphold high academic standards, attend regular meetings, and complete a chapter service project, as well as an individual service project each year.

The GWUOHS branch of the NHS will recognize National Honor Society memberships awarded by other schools.

National Junior Honor Society

National Junior Honor Society members meet monthly to develop and discuss new initiatives for our school and share their service work experiences, of which they are required to accumulate at least 10 hours per semester. GWUOHS NJHS members also meet in person for an annual service project and/or event and lead social events for the school throughout the year.
